Hertsmere recognised as digital leaders

Hertsmere Borough Council has been recognised for its improved citizen engagement, receiving a 'Digital Strategy and Impact' award by industry leaders, Govdelivery.

Hertsmere Borough Council has been recognised for its improved citizen engagement, receiving a 'Digital Strategy and Impact' award by industry leaders, Govdelivery.

The council was one of just three councils to receive an award at this prestigious event, attended by more than 500 delegates from public sector organisations along with representatives from as far afield as New York City.

The award relates to the council's new FREE e-alerts service 'News for You', that aims to promote our services, enhance public awareness of the council and improve citizen involvement.

Councillor Morris Bright, Leader of the Council and portfolio holder for communications, said: "Communications is a vital part of the council's work in keeping residents and staff up-to-date. This award recognises our commitment to improving our digital communications, which allows people to stay informed, involved and engaged.

"Representatives from across the council worked together to create an easy and accessible new communication tool, that complements our existing approaches. I am delighted their hard work has been recognised and our council can be a leader in this area."

The first e-alerts was sent in March 2015 and since then almost two thousand people have signed up to receive an e-alert on the news that matters to them.

With 20 categories to choose from, people can sign up to read about the latest museum collection, how to recycle better, what's happening in their local park through to community safety advice and healthy living tips.

The award is thanks to a cross-council team comprising of representatives from corporate communications, customer services, information and digital services as well as core service functions including street scene, environmental health, finance, revenues and benefits.

The award was presented to Hertsmere at a conference and ceremony on 16 September at the Park Plaza Victoria in London.
